Lady Dawgs take 2nd in Centex Shootout

By TJ MAXWELL   The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs swept their way to the Killeen CenTex Shootout soccer tournament championship game where they fell to district rival Harker Heights in a makeshift championship game after inclement weather forced Austin-area teams to pull out of Saturday’s title games.

By JAMES HARPER   An upset is loosely defined as an underdog overcoming overwhelming odds to defeat a superior opponent. Given that, what the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs pulled off last Friday night in Harker Heights was about as big an upset that has been seen in District 12-6A.

Lady Dawgs shoot down Lady Knights 72-62

By TJ MAXWELL   The Lady Dawgs needed to wash the bad taste from their mouth after a tough loss to Midway on Tuesday. They did just that on Friday as they roared past the Harker Heights Lady Knights 72-62 behind a balanced scoring effort and an opportunistic defense.

Cove Soccer teams hold scrimmages

By TJ MAXWELL   The Copperas Cove boys’ and girls’ soccer teams got in some scrimmage action over the weekend to kick off the new year. The boys’ earned a sweep on a frigid Saturday at Bulldawg Stadium with a 3-0 blanking of Salado, followed by a 2-0 shutout of Connally.
Copperas Cove’s Brittany Sanders competes in the 400-yard freestyle relay during the Georgetown Winter Invitational on Saturday. The Cove girls finished in third place with 272 points and the boys finished in sixth with 227 points for a combined fourth place finish with 499 points. The AquaDawgs will travel to Temple this Saturday for the day-long Wildcat Winter Classic at Temple High School. Preliminary races will be held in the morning with finals set for the evening.

By TJ MAXWELL   DALLAS – Copperas Cove head basketball coach Billy White Jr. wanted to challenge his team by participating in the prestigious Dallas Independent School District’s 75th Annual Coca- Cola Basketball Tournament. “I think this was a good test for us,” he said.
Cove senior Lexi Perez was selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s All-State First Team. Senior Mikayla Blount was given an Honorable Mention.
