City funding business loans to create jobs

By LYNETTE SOWELL   The City of Copperas Cove has $45,000 in business loans for local business owners via its revolving loan fund, but those interested in applying for funds must apply by September 17. The revolving loan fund, or RLF, is intented to stimulate economic growth in the community.

By DAVID MORRIS Cove Leader-Press   Kirby Lack edged out Azeita Taylor in their runoff election for the Place 5 seat on the Copperas Cove City Council Tuesday evening, claiming 289 votes to Taylor’s 237.

Council finalizes tax rate and budget

By DAVID MORRIS   In a five to one contested vote, the Copperas Cove City Council approved the 2014-15 fiscal year budget and tax rate increase to $0.79 per $100 valuation of property. Councilman Jim Schmitz was the lone nay vote in both records.

By DAVID MORRIS   Steven Trubee and his mother Barbara, are set for the winter months thanks to the bountiful harvest from Steven’s garden over the last six months. Growing fruits, vegetables and herbs he spends an average of six hours a day nurturing the plants, reaping the harvest of his labors.

Election day set for today

By DAVID MORRIS   Copperas Cove voters have 12 hours left to cast their ballot, and help decide a winner in the Copperas Cove City Council Place 5 runoff election between Azeita Taylor and Kirby Lack. The seat was vacated in March when Kenn Smith gave his letter of resignation to Mayor John Hull.

Council to hold first meeting of month

By DAVID MORRIS   The Copperas Cove City Council will have a heavy agenda as they gather for the first meeting of the month tonight in Council Chambers at the Economic Development Corporation board room starting at 5 p.m. with a workshop followed by their regular meeting.

Cove loses ‘Good Neighbor’ at age 98

By DAVID MORRIS   Born in 1916 on a farm outside Hampton, Nebraska, Edgar H. Rhode was the second of twelve children born to Fred and Elsie Rhode. Rhode lived and worked the family farm surviving the great depression and dust bowl before joining the Army in 1939 and making his way to central Texas.
