From now until March, young and old alike are subject to the flu, and local healthcare providers like Baylor Scott & White Clinic in Copperas Cove are helping people prevent catching the disease. At this point, it’s hard to predict if the flu season will be a harsh one or not. “There are so many variables,” said Dr. Raymond Harrison, at the Baylor Scott & White Clinic. “One of the factors is how many people get vaccinated.” Typically a “bad” year is when people don’t. Harrison hopes to dispel misconceptions about getting the vaccine. “The flu vaccine does not cause the flu,” Harrison said. “Sometimes it’s timing. It takes about two weeks for it to take effect and people have already been exposed.”
