CCISD to hold annual State of the District event

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press     The Copperas Cove Independent School District invites the community to attend the annual State of the District presentation on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center. Refreshments will be provided. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

By PAMELA GRANT Cove Leader-Press   It isn’t easy to ask for help, and with Friday’s Market with a Mission held at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, it wasn’t necessary, D&S Cuddling Critters partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank to provide free food for those in need—no paperwork or ID required.
Ava Hagan earned a buckle and received multiple top finishes, 3rd Place – Senior Trail; 2nd Place – Senior Western Pleasure; 2nd Place – Senior Showmanship; 1st Place – Senior Horsemanship; and Overall Grand Champion at the 66th annual Coryell County Youth Fair. The fair wraps up with a premium auction which starts at 4 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Gatesville Civic Center. It is open to the public.

Two dead after officer-involved shooting in Copperas Cove

By LYNETTE SOWELL  Cove Leader-Press    The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting death of a Copperas Cove police officer and another individual on Saturday, Jan. 10.  Sgt. Bryan Washko with the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement on Sunday morning.

Copperas Cove man dies in Wednesday morning crash on F.M. 116

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press   A 68-year-old Copperas Cove man died at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on F.M. 116 North on Wednesday morning. Scott Blair Fraser of Copperas Cove was driving a 2015 Nissan Sentra headed northbound, when around 6:56 a.m.
The Dec. 26 incident occurred on Bea Powell Road just outside the Copperas Cove city limits.

86-year-old Copperas Cove man arrested in connection with Dec. 26 hit-and-run fatality

By LYNETTE SOWELL  Cove Leader-Press    The Texas Department of Public Safety announced on Tuesday afternoon that it has made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run incident that killed 63-year-old Benny Ray Manning of Copperas Cove.
