By LYNETTE SOWELL Elizabeth Laird, known to thousands of soldiers as “The Hug Lady,” has been hospitalized for more than a week now at Metroplex Hospital.   Laird’s son, Rick Dewees of Copperas Cove, said Tuesday morning his mother was in ICU and had tachycardia.

First Baptist Church celebrates 130 years

By LYNETTE SOWELL On Nov. 8, 1885, 13 Copperas Cove residents signed the constitution for the formation of First Baptist Church. That occasion was commemorated on Sunday by the approximately 600 who attend the church, in two services.

Dash for a Cause

By LYNETTE SOWELL The skies cleared up on Saturday in time for the inaugural Pink Warrior Dash 5K run/walk at South Park, held by Pink Warrior Angels.   The event had been postponed from the original date of October 24 due to the weather.

Star Group – VHV receives donation at meeting
