State of the District

By LYNETTE SOWELL   The atmosphere at Tuesday’s state of the district luncheon hosted by the Copperas Cove Independent School District held a different air than in 2014. Last year, the district was reeling from recently learning it had lost millions in heavy Impact Aid dollars.

Science Fair

By PAMELA GRANT   65 Copperas Cove High School students competed in the annual CCHS Science Fair. Of those, only four won trophies and will be moving on to compete in the District Science Fair competition this May. Students were able to compete either individually, in pairs or in groups of three.

Tough cookies to race Sunday

By LYNETTE SOWELL   The Tough Cookie Duathlon, set for March 1 starting at 9 a.m. at South Park, located at 2602 Dennis Drive in Copperas Cove, is a beginner-friendly sprint distance run-bike-run event followed by a kids’ fun run.

Stamp Out Hunger set for Saturday

By PAMELA GRANT   Operation: A Taste of Home will be hosting a Stamp out Hunger event this Saturday at Patriot Storage from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. However, the group plans to set up early around 7:30 so that they can serve pancakes for anyone that shows up early.

CCISD, state outpace national graduation averages

By LYNETTE SOWELL   The United States Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics recently released information detailing state-bystate graduation rates in 2012-13, with Texas’ Class of 2013 graduating at a rate of 88 percent outpacing the national average of 81 percent.

Gone Fishin’

By CHUCK TAYLOR   Hundreds of kids and their parents showed up this past Saturday as the Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation Department held their annual Fishing in the Park. The morning started out warm but slowly cooled as the event began.
