What If?

Believe it or not, it’s hypothetically possible that this column could have simply never happened. There was a chain of events that led to it existing, and had even one link in the chain been removed, things could have ended very, very differently.

How to not make the news

In a community like ours, sometimes it’s feast or famine when it comes to the news. My phone’s calendar has plenty of blue “specks” which tell me I have news-related event coming up.

Moving on

Yesterday, my coffee maker died. It just quit working. No warning. No sputtering or strange noises. It just died. My first reaction was one of those deer-caught-in-the-headlights panic moments. No coffee? How will I make it through the day?

Deadlines

If this was a television series, I could just do a “clip show” and be done with it. You know, do an episode in which most, if not all, of the footage was recycled from other episodes.

The county lineup

Voters are heading to the polls between now and March 2 for the March 6 primary. If you’re like me, or how I used to be, I didn’t really know what some of the positions we vote on, um, do.

Dawg athletes parade for United Way Olympics

You’ve got to hand it to the honchos who run the Greater Fort Hood Area United Way. Each year, they work their magic to raise money for various agencies around the neighborhood, who might not be able to do their jobs without the help United Way offers.

Testing the resolution

As I type this, it’s about 5 minutes until an auction I have up on E-Bay ends. Yes, I’m unloading a few things on E-Bay, and there’s more to come. In this case, I do have a bid on it, so it’s going to sell.

Who, what, how ...

Before I ended up falling headfirst into the newspaper side of writing, I thought I pretty much knew what went on around our community. For the most part, I was fairly well informed.

Be Mine

Valentine’s Day is what I like to call the “un-holiday” holiday. You don’t get a day off work, but if you’re not careful, you’ll still gain five pounds or more. All that chocolate, and my favorite—those little powdered-sugar hearts with messages on them. Those are the best.
