Four file for council, mayoral election

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press  Filing for the Copperas Cove city council election is currently open through Monday, August 20, and as of the close of business Tuesday, four candidates have filed for a place on the November 6 sballot with the Copperas Cove city secretary’s office.

Coryell County wildfire burns more than 5,000 acres

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press   A wildfire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon near Harmon Road just north of Copperas Cove has turned into a fire covering more than 5,000 acres and as of Sunday evening, was 35 percent contained.

Five Hills royalty make splash at Spring Ho

Late Wednesday fire destroys vehicles, damages structure near Big Divide

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press  A late-night fire broke out Wednesday evening at 15099 U.S. Highway 190, near the intersection of Highway 190 and Big Divide Road.  Several vehicles and a structure were either damaged or destroyed as a result of the fire, said Lampasas Fire Chief Reece Oestrich.

Popeye’s to open Monday
