City council, CCISD election filing period closes

The filing period for a place on the ballot in the November 6 election ended Monday, and all positions up for reelection for the Copperas Cove city council as well as the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees have contested races. 
In the race for Copperas Cove city council place 1, Cheryl Meredith and Joann Courtland are running for the position currently occupied by David Morris. 
In the race for Copperas Cove city council Place 2, Fred Chavez challenges incumbent James Pierce Jr. in his bid for a second term. 
For the position of mayor, Joey Acfalle and Azeita Taylor are running against incumbent Frank Seffrood. 
On Thursday morning, all seven candidates gathered at City Hall to draw numbers for the order of the ballot, which will be as follows: Place 1, Joann Courtland, Cheryl Meredith; Place 2, Fred Chavez, James Pierce Jr.; Mayor, Azeita Taylor, Frank Seffrood, Joey Acfalle. 
Over on the CCISD board of trustees election, incumbent Inez Faison faces off against John Gallen .
On Monday, Shameria Ann Davis as well as Jeff Gorres filed to run for place 2 on the CCISD board of trustees, making it a four-way race. They along with Joseph Leary challenge incumbent Harry L. Byrd for that position. 
Voter registration deadline for the November 6 election is October 9.
