The deadline to vote in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election is Monday, Oct. 5.
This year, there are a total of 12 candidates running for a total of five positions in Copperas Cove area elections.
The two races for the Copperas Cove city council, Place 6 and Place 7, have three candidates apiece, and none of them incumbents. The current Place 6 and Place 7 councilmembers, Vonya Hart and Jack Smith, are term limited. In the event that either of the city council races do not have one candidate with a 50 percent-plus-one majority of the vote on Nov. 3, that race will head to a runoff election, typically held in December.
There are three races for the Copperas Cove ISD board of trustees, Place 5, 6, and 7, with two candidates in each race.
Those eligible to vote must register to vote if they have not already done so.
Voter registration applications are available at the Coryell County Tax Office, 809 S. Main St. in Copperas Cove, at the post office, as well as the Copperas Cove Public Library.
A voter registration application may also be requested by sending an email to tac@coryelltax.com.
An application can also be printed by going to https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/vrapp/index.asp.
Applications should be mailed to Justin Carothers, Coryell County Voter Registrar, P.O. Box 6, Gatesville TX 76528, or can be dropped off at the local tax office.
Voter registrations are valid as long as a voter’s address is up to date. Those who move need to contact the Coryell County Elections Office and notify them of your current address.
Voters can check their registration status at the Texas Secretary of State’s webpage, VoteTexas.gov at https://www.votetexas.gov/faq/. Or, they can call the Tax Assessor-Collector/Voter Registrar’s office at (254) 248-3144.
New voter registration certificates are mailed every two years, in the November of odd numbered years.
Early voting begins on Monday, Oct. 19 and goes from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday the first week. Polls will also be open on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Voting continues the second week with polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, wrapping up on Friday, Oct. 30.
