Special to the Leader-Press
Communities In Schools of Greater Central Texas (CIS) and H-E-B are teaming up to ensure underserved students and their families have what they need to be successful in the coming school year.
A customer donation campaign to raise funds for school supplies will be held
July 21 through August 27 at all H-E-B stores in Texas. Customers shopping online or in store can donate any amount to the campaign which locally benefits CIS students in the Killeen, Copperas Cove, Temple, Salado and Jarrell school districts.
“Families across Texas are buying school supplies to prepare their children to attend school and learn, but for some families that is a high financial burden their income cannot bear,” said Michael Dewees, local CIS executive director. “Children from low-income families often go without and the start of the school year is no different. These donations ensure all students are ready for a great school year regardless of their economic situation.”
H-E-B customers will have the option of donating three, five or 10 dollars, or rounding up their total bill to make a donation to CIS. Customers should check the credit/debit card reader screen for the donation options while the cashier is entering items. The donation must be selected before the cashier is through scanning purchases and totals the bill.
“H-E-B’s shared commitment to helping area at-risk students succeed in school will make a huge impact,” said Dewees. “CIS believes all students can learn and be engaged in school if they have everything they need to be successful. Our partnership with H-E-B plays a big part in that success as the campaign helps provide students, especially at our high-need campuses, free access to school supplies throughout the year.”
Across central Texas, CIS served more than 6,100 students in the 2024-2025 school year with one-on-one case managed services and impacted the lives of more than 45,000 students in the 53 campuses it serves. Across Texas there are 27 CIS affiliates providing students with a variety of support measures to ensure they stay in school and achieve in life.
