Groups gather at Civic Center for Thanksgiving benefit

The parking lot outside the Civic Center and the surrounding area was packed on Tuesday, and the line of people waiting to get into the Civic Center for the 21st Annual Community-Wide Thanksgiving Basket Benefit curled around the building, spilling out into the parking lot.

 

Approximately 70 volunteers helped out approximately 500 people. The group collected 14,000 pounds of food, mostly in the form of Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys. The bags of food contained everything one would expect to find in a Thanksgiving meal, including stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, gravy, canned vegetables, and more. Families with six or more members also received an extra bag of food containing things like cereal, canned milk, canned fruits and vegetables, rice, and more.
