The creativity and dedication of student artists will take center stage during the Central Texas College Annual Student Art Show & Competition, on display April 7 through May 4 in the Hallway Gallery of the Lady Bird Johnson Fine Arts Building.

Hosted by the Central Texas College Fine Arts Department, the juried exhibition celebrates the work of CTC art students and highlights a wide range of artistic expression, from drawing and painting to mixed media works.

The public is invited to attend the Student Art Show Reception from 12–1 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, in the Hallway Gallery. During the reception, student award winners will be announced.

The Annual Student Art Show is the longest-running event of its kind at CTC, dating back to the earliest days of the college’s art program more than five decades ago. The exhibition has become a longstanding campus tradition that recognizes the talent and artistic development of student creators while inviting the community to experience their work, said CTC Professor of Art Regina Allen.

“It’s a vital opportunity for the Fine Arts Department, the campus and the community to celebrate the growth and accomplishments of our hard-working and creative art students,” Allen said. “The show also gives our students the practical experience of preparing and displaying their artwork in an art show and offers them the chance to be chosen by our juror to win coveted gift cards from Blick Art Materials, who generously co-sponsor the event with us.”

This year’s exhibition will be judged by Dr. Wynona Alexander, an accomplished artist and Department Chair Emeritus of Fine Arts who served the college from 1969 to 2010. Alexander will select six student award recipients as part of the juried competition.

For student artists, the exhibition represents both an opportunity and a milestone in their creative journeys.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for artists of all kinds,” said CTC student Hannah Zapf. “To be able to have others view your work, but also have it seen and recognized by others who have as much passion and love for art, is always a heartwarming experience.”

CTC student Aiyana Jaramillo said seeing her work displayed publicly is both exciting and meaningful.

“The excitement also brings a sense of accomplishment with being able to have my artwork displayed publicly because I get to show off what I am passionate about,” Jaramillo said. “Being part of the CTC art community is very uplifting and is nothing but support, which I admire so much.”

Community members, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the exhibition and attend the reception to celebrate the creativity of CTC’s emerging artists.
