Special to Leader-Press  Copperas Cove High School DECA students are ready to compete Saturday morning and put their skills to the test at the DECA 5 District Conference, which draws more than 1,200 students. Fewer than 500 will advance to the state contest held in Dallas in February.

Police seek suspects in burglary, assault

Special to Leader-Press  On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 PM, Copperas Cove Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Terrace Drive in reference to a burglary of a habitation where an assault occurred.  Upon arrival, the victim told officers that he heard a knock on the door and went to answer it.

Cove man out on bond for murder arrested for sexual assault

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press  A 23-year-old Copperas Cove man out on bond for a charge of murder in Bell County now finds himself behind bars again, this time for charges of sexual assault of a child.  Matthew Stoddard was arrested on January 9.

Yancey voted mayor pro tem, council approves personnel changes

By LYNETTE SOWELL Cove Leader-Press  On Tuesday night, at the recommendation of Mayor Frank Seffrood, the Copperas Cove city council voted Dan Yancey as mayor pro tem for the year.  Personnel changes in the city’s Solid Waste Department were approved, but the decision was not unanimous.
