With the Tuesday, March 3 primary a little more than four weeks away, there are only a few days left for voters to register for the upcoming election.
Texas law requires eligible voters to register by the 30th day before Election Day.
The voter registration deadline for the March 3 Primary Election is Monday, Feb. 2.
Voters can verify their registration status and more at https://www.votetexas.gov/.
With a number of Coryell County races having more than one candidate, there will be several local candidate forums and other opportunities for voters to hear from candidates.
For Republican-dominated Coryell County, the March primary will decide all county races.
Local candidates running in opposed races include County Judge, Commissioners for Precincts 2 and 4, Justices of the Peace Precinct 2, and District Clerk.
For Coryell County Judge, candidates include Rob Erwin, Roger Miller (incumbent), and Latisha Walton.
Both races for County Commissioner have a total of four candidates each.
In Precinct 2, Tully Meyer, Tiffany Butler, Scott Weddle (incumbent), and Fahron Nolte will be on the ballot.
In Precinct 4, Ray Ashby, Keith Taylor (incumbent), Justin Smith, and Carroll Starkey will be on the ballot.
For Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, incumbent F. W. “Bill” Price faces Joey Acfalle.
For District Clerk, Becky Moore (incumbent) faces Lisa Robuck.
The Coryell County Republican Women Club will be hosting a panel discussion on Saturday, Jan. 314, at 9:30 a.m., at 1802 MLK Jr. Dr. in Copperas Cove. The Panel Discussion is with County Commissioners and other officials in contested races for the March 2026 primary.
This event will offer voters the chance to learn about each office’s responsibilities ahead of the GOP forums in February featuring 2026 Primary Election candidates.
Additionally, there will be two candidate forums, the first on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at 1802 MLK Jr. Dr. in Copperas Cove, and the second on Monday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Gatesville Civic Center.
Both will be a question-and-answer type of forum, during which candidates will be asked questions and have a time-limited response. There is no admission charge for either event.
According to Norman Mitchell, the Coryell County GOP chair, the moderator will be given the questions that are all “relevant to the various positions that have opponents running.”
“No one will know the questions ahead of time. The questions will be gathered from various sources that are relevant to the positions that are up for challenge.”
Early voting starts Tuesday, Feb. 17 and ends on Friday, Feb. 27.
Polling locations in Coryell County are the Copperas Cove Early Voting Center, located at 809 S. Main St., and at the Gatesville Annex, 800 E. Main St., Ste B, Gatesville.
Hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Feb. 17-20, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 23-27.
Another event – this one ticketed – is the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner held by the Coryell County Republican Party on Saturday, February 21 at the Texas Station Event Center in Gatesville. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is slated to be the guest speaker.
