The Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area is open to non-civilians, but Fort Hood recently announced that it has added gate guards to the entrance.
“This addition is entirely dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all our guests, preserving the family-friendly atmosphere that makes the area so special. We want our neighbors who do not possess a Department of War identification card to know that BLORA is fully open to the general public, and getting there is easier than ever,” stated Lt. Col Matthew McMillan, III Armored Corps, Deputy Public Affairs Officer.
After a May 23 shooting incident at BLORA during a gathering and reports of disorderly conduct, the facility was closed to all non-Department of Defense/Department of War identification holders until further notice.
However, BLORA is again open to all – but all non-DoD/DoW ID holders age 18 and up in a vehicle must have an access pass, just as if they were visiting the main post.
Visitors can get an access pass online ahead of their visit to BLORA by visiting www.pass.aie.army.mil online. Visitors will receive a background check after entering their information, including a valid driver’s license or state ID. They will be notified via text if their pass is approved or denied.
Once approved, they can proceed to the Visitor Welcome Center to complete the pass process and receive their paper pass to access BLORA. For more information, call (254) 287-9909 or go to https://home.army.mil/hood/my-fort/visitor-information.
“We value our Central Texas neighbors and want you to continue enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities we offer. We hope to see you on the water,” said McMillan.
The gate fee is $2.50 per DAV vehicle, $5 for authorized DoD patrons per vehicle, and $10 for all other civilians per vehicle.
