The Copperas Cove Historical Society is inviting the community to celebrate Independence Day with a family-friendly Fourth of July event at the historic Allin House.
The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, at the Allin House, located at 401 N. Main St.
Activities will include live music, games, a cake walk, a bouncy house and other entertainment for all ages.
Food will also be available, with hot dog and chips meals offered for $2 each.
Proceeds from food sales will benefit restoration efforts at the Allin House. There will also be fundraising opportunities like a raffle and silent auction.
Across town, the Copperas Cove Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 is inviting the community to an Independence Day celebration from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature entertainment and activities for all ages. The post is located at 1506 Veterans Ave.
Breakfast, prepared by the American Legion 582, will be served from 8 to 10 a.m., $8 for ages 69 and younger, and $6 for ages 70 and up.
Then at 10 a.m., a cornhole tournament will begin. The cost is $30 per team, with a 70%/30% payout split for 1st and 2nd place. Registration may be done ahead of time at the post.
Additional games during the day will include giant Connect 4, giant Jenga, giant Yardzee, washers, ring toss, yard pong and water balloons. A bounce house and music throughout the day will provide entertainment.
Food will be available to including brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs and cake will be served from noon until 2 p.m.
The Copperas Cove Police Department and Copperas Cove Fire Department will be on hand with vehicles and displays.
Picklefest, Kids Toy Parade, 4th of July Festival & Firework
Other activities locally include the first ever Gatesville Picklefest, part of the city’s three-day Fourth of July celebrations.
Picklefest will be held Friday, July 3, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Civic Center, located at 301 Veterans Memorial Loop, parking lot. The event will feature all things pickle related – from homemade pickles, pickle themed drinks and much more. There will also be various competitions being held during the events runtime.
Then on Saturday, July 4, the City of Gatesville, along with the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a Kids Toy Parade, starting at 4:30 p.m. This parade will be open to children aged 6 months to 12 years old, and they are encouraged to decorate and showcase their bikes, power wheels and other rideable devices. The parade route will be riding around the courthouse square. The staging area will be located at South 7th St., between East Leon St. and Bridge St. Those interested in participating will register the day of the parade from 3 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Shortly following the Kids Toy Parade, the City of Gatesville alongside the Gatesville Chamber of Commerce will host the citywide Fourth of July Parade for the first time in several years.
The parade is scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m., following the approved parade route at East Leon St. and South 5th St. before ending at Marshall Street east of Lovers Lane at the pre-fireworks celebration area. Staging for the parade will take place from noon to 5 p.m. near East Leon St. & South 5th St, Coryell County Annex parking lots and Curbside on E. Leon St. Those interested in submitting an application to participate can do so either on the city’s website at https://forms.office.com/r/Pehg5ZyQXy or by visiting City Hall, located at 803 East Main St.
Then the evening of the 4th, the City of Gatesville will be hosting the annual Fourth of July Festival and fireworks in the fields both behind and to the right of the First Methodist Church from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. following the Fourth of July Parade. The festival will include live music, carnival games, food trucks and bounce houses with fireworks scheduled to be set off around 9:45 p.m.
Fireworks will take place on Fort Hood but not until July 10, when the post will host Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band Mission Support Concert and Fireworks Spectacular. The event will include family activities, static displays, food and beverage sales and concluding with a fireworks display, beginning at 6 p.m. July 10 at Sadowski Field.
