The City of Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department is hosting its spring clean-up on Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Solid Waste Operational Center, located at 2605 S. FM 116.

City utility residents and businesses (not including contractors) are welcome to bring household trash and junk, brush and yard waste in brown leaf bags, as well as old appliances, for disposal at no charge.

Freezers, refrigerators and air conditioners brought for disposal must have the compressor removed. Computers, including monitors, CPUs, keyboard, mice and printers may be brought for disposal also.

Recycling items are also welcome, including scrap metal, boxes, aluminum cans, newspaper and inserts, steel cans, and plastics 1 and 2. Used motor oil, antifreeze and other hazardous waste will not be accepted.

Used cooking oil will be accepted for disposal, but must be verified by Solid Waste personnel.

There is a disposal charge of $3 per tire for tires up to 17 inches, with tires more than 17 inches having a charge of $7.

The event is sponsored by the Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department and Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful, and is part of the Great American Cleanup held nationwide.

Utility customers are welcome to make two free trips to the facility and must show proof of residency to dispose of their items. For more information, contact Silvia Rhoads, recycling coordinator, at 547-4242.
