The City of Copperas Cove, in partnership with the Parks & Recreation Department, Hill Country Community Action Association (HCCAA), and the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce are holding a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for the newly completed Senior Center at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
The new facility is 2400 Walker Place Blvd. and faces West Business 190.
The project is several years in the making, after the Copperas Cove City Council directed to sell the former Senior Center facility on North Drive. With that sale for $588,000 in May 2023, the city purchased the property for the new facility on Walker Place Boulevard for $385,000. The rest of the funds to build and complete the new building were made part of the city’s 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Plan.
Ground was broken for the project on Dec. 2, 2024.
The new center is an 8,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building, with a dining area of over 2,000 square feet, an 1,100-square-foot kitchen, three activity rooms, a community meeting room, as well as office space for administration and case workers.
Project expenses to date, per the City of Copperas Cove, are $236,284 for services provided by Elements of Architecture, Inc. for site selection, design, planning, and construction oversight, as well as $3,161,835 for property and construction costs.
February 2023, City Council also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Hill Country Community Action Association (HCCAA) in 2023.
The HCCAA operates and manages the Senior Center, overseeing activities along with the local Meals on Wheels program within the city.
