Races set for Copperas Cove city council, CCISD board of trustees Nov. 5 elections

Election filing closed on Monday, Aug. 19 for the Nov. 5 general elections for the Copperas Cove city council and the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees.
Last-day filings on Monday added two more candidates to the Copperas Cove city council race for Place 2.
Rita Hogan and Victor Hall II filed for Place 2, joining George Duncan to make a three-way race. According to city charter, a candidate must receive at least a 50 percent majority vote plus one to win a race. Otherwise, a runoff election must take place.
Place 2 is currently held by Fred Chavez, who is term limited.
Place 1 on the Copperas Cove city council is currently held by Joann Courtland, who is also term limited.
Christina Strohfus and Howard Hawk have filed to run for Place 1.
Dan Yancey has filed to run for a second three-year term as mayor.
The Copperas Cove Independent School District is holding an election for Place 1 and Place 2 on the board of trustees.
Both positions have contested races.
Place 1 incumbent is Inez Faison. Faison has one challenger for the position, Sherry Hoffpauir.
Shameria Ann Davis, Place 2 incumbent, has filed for election. Like Faison, Davis has one challenger, Timothy Traeger, who has also filed to run for Place 2.
The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election is Monday, Oct. 7.
Early voting starts Oct. 21.
