Less than a week before his sixth birthday, young Connor Hedge, a House Creek Elementary School student, finished his battle with stage IV neuroblastoma on Sunday morning.

The Hedge family moved to Copperas Cove about a year ago, with Connor continuing to receive treatment when the cancer, neuroplastoma reappeared in his brain as he began kindergarten.

His school spent the last year rallying around Connor and his family, as did the community.

On Saturday at noon, the school will be the setting for a birthday party for Connor as well as a celebration of his life.

The event is open to the public, and both children and adults are welcome to wear superhero costumes in Connor’s honor. There will also be children’s activities, the Hedge family announced via Connor’s Facebook page on Monday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Connor Hedge Memorial Fund for a lasting memorial in his honor at House Creek Elementary School and can be made online through the Willowtree Foundation by using the Connor Hedge Memorial Fund link at www.willowtreerva.org or in his name at any Wells Fargo location.
