Special to the Leader-Press

Registration is now open for the annual Mayfest 5K Fun Run, a community event benefiting local nonprofit organizations dedicated to the prevention of child abuse.

The race will take place on Saturday, May 2, at 8:30 a.m. at Ogletree Gap as part of the City of Copperas Cove’s Mayfest celebration.

Hosted by the Copperas Cove Noon Exchange Club, the Mayfest 5K brings together runners, walkers, families, and businesses to support the mission of strengthening families and protecting children.

Over the past five years, the club has donated more than $105,500 in race proceeds to area nonprofits, including:

  - Boys & Girls Club

  - Communities In Schools

  - The Rainbow Room

  - Hope Pregnancy Center

  - Cove House

  - AWARE

All proceeds from the 2026 event will again support local organizations providing child abuse prevention and family services in the Copperas Cove area.

Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to register. Additionally, local businesses in Copperas Cove, Killeen, and Harker Heights are invited to get involved through event sponsorships. Sponsorships maximize the funds donated to nonprofit partners while providing businesses with community visibility and a chance to make a lasting positive impact. Businesses can also provide sponsorship by supporting team runners.

The Copperas Cove Noon Exchange Club extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors and supporters for making this event possible.

In addition to the run, the club is holding a raffle, with tickets available for $10. Prizes include a Yeti Roadie hard cooler, an electric wine chiller and portable cooler, an outdoor Bluetooth speaker, 30-inch digital BBQ smoker, and a Star Wars gift basket.

For race registration, sponsorship opportunities, or more information, please contact Ira Brand at 254-247-7524.

The registration fee is $30 through Friday, May 1.
