Beginning Monday May 26, at 6 p.m, Bell County Water Control & Improvement District #1 (WCID 1) will be initiating Stage 3 of its Drought Contingency Plan, seeking a 30 percent reduction in water usage.

This could could last up to four days.

(WCID 1) is working on two projects during the month of May and at that time, there will be a necessary shutdown of a 48-inch water line to make final connections for those projects.

This 48-inch water main delivers approximately two-thirds of the total water supply to the Cities of Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville along with the 439 Water Supply Corporation and Fort Cavazos.

As far as the City of Copperas Cove is concerned, there are plans to temporarily upgrade to Stage 4A of its Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan starting May 26.

Copperas Cove Mayor Dan Yancey will issue an Order for Stage Implementation.

Stage 4, categorized as “Critical,” prohibits all outdoor watering activities, including watering of landscaped areas, unless reclaimed water is used.

Water can be used only for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene purposes. No washing vehicles or watering plants.
