For Andrew Montgomery, service is measured not in recognition, but in results — classrooms that function seamlessly, workspaces that feel welcoming, and a campus that reflects pride and professionalism.

Named Central Texas College’s Hourly Employee of the Year, Montgomery has spent more than two decades supporting the institution through an unwavering commitment to customer service and a genuine desire to serve others.

“I moved to Copperas Cove in 1996 from Colorado and immediately loved the small-town atmosphere and the great people,” Montgomery said. “That sense of community is something I’ve always valued, and it’s something I feel every day at CTC.”

Montgomery’s journey at CTC began as a student. In 2000, while enrolled in carpentry trades courses, an instructor recognized his skills and encouraged him to apply for an open position in the facilities department. With strong mentorship and encouragement, Montgomery officially joined the college in 2002 as a building maintenance helper.

“An instructor suggested I apply and bring my skills to the college,” he said. “I was recruited pretty hard, and it worked.”

Over the next 20 years, Montgomery progressed through multiple roles within Facilities Management, serving as a painter, electrician, carpenter, and eventually lead carpenter. Each role strengthened his ability to respond to campus needs quickly and creatively.

“I’ve had the most pleasure working with a wonderful group of faculty and staff,” Montgomery said. “Whether it’s repairs, upgrades, or changes, my goal has always been to provide what’s needed so students can learn and grow.”

From building and repairing desks to redesigning classrooms and keeping essential systems running, Montgomery approaches every task with pride. He believes a well-maintained campus communicates respect and excellence.

“A professional, well-maintained campus gives people a sense of pride and prestige,” he said. “I hope that when people walk into CTC, they feel confident and comfortable in the environment.”

A U.S. Army veteran, Montgomery takes special pride in supporting military students pursuing education and career advancement at CTC.

“I’m proud to help provide a great environment for my brothers and sisters in the military,” he said. “They’re here to better themselves, and I want to do my best to support that.”

Whether handling routine maintenance or unique requests designed to impress, Montgomery finds fulfillment in making a difference.

“I hope that through my work, I’m doing my best for everyone, students and employees alike,” he said. “Everything I do is about helping make CTC a safe, secure, and welcoming place for all.”
