The City of Copperas Cove released an update on Tuesday afternoon, on an internal investigation that began in July regarding an unspecified number of Copperas Cove Fire Department staff members, one of which resigned effective July 9.
“The internal investigation is complete, resulting in four firefighters being implicated in City policy violations and released from duty,” stated Kevin Keller, Public Relations Director for the City of Copperas Cove. “To be extremely clear, the investigation pertains to a limited number of personnel within the Fire Department, not the department as a whole.”
On July 16, the City of Copperas Cove and the Copperas Cove Police Department announced internal and criminal investigations were simultaneously being conducted in conjunction with the Copperas Cove Fire Department.
One firefighter had already resigned on July 9, two firefighters were terminated on July 31, and one firefighter was terminated on August 1, Keller said.
“The criminal investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Copperas Cove Police Department. To protect the integrity and uphold due process of the criminal investigation, no further information is available,” Keller added.
“The City of Copperas Cove holds its employees to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability. We are committed to continuously reviewing our operations to ensure all policies and procedures are being followed and upheld across all departments. Our residents deserve excellence in service and we will continue working every day to earn and maintain their trust.”
