Former CCISD trustee and council member running for office again

    For the CCISD board of trustees and the Copperas Cove city council, two former placeholders have filed to run for office again.

    Inez Faison, a 17-year veteran of the Copperas Cove ISD board of trustees, filed to run for Place 6, CCISD Director of Communications Kurtis Quillin confirmed last Friday.

    Faison served in Place 1 from 2007 until the November 2024 election, when current trustee Sherry Hoffpauir ran against her and beat her in the polls in a nearly 3-1 margin.

    James Ortiz, a retired educator, will be on the ballot for Place 5 on the board of trustees, and James “JC” Stubbs, financial advisor, has filed to run for Place 7.

    Place 5 is currently held by recent appointee Mike Wilburn and Place 7 is currently held by Jeff Gorres.

    Over on the Copperas Cove city council, Places 6 and 7 are up for election in November

    The incumbents for Places 6 and 7 are term limited and cannot run.

    On Tuesday, it was announced by the city that Jay Manning has filed to run for Place 6.

    Manning is no stranger to the city council, having served in Place 4 for two, three-year terms, from 2016-2022.

    Two candidates, Dana Wall and William Smith, have filed for Place 7, currently held by Jack Smith.

    Applications for a place on the ballot for city council and the CCISD board of trustees may be filed through August 17.

    Candidate packets are available on the City website and at the City Secretary’s Office.
