Downtown Copperas Cove will be the setting of the #ShopCcove Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 20, from 4-10 p.m., hosted by the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation and the Taste of Cove Food Truck Park.
They are joined this year by Herb & Earnie’s, The House on Main, Nelson Brew Works and Refresh Salon, ang a lineup of more than 50 vendors that will be situated in downtown Copperas Cove.
A total of 10 downtown businesses will be open extended hours for Oktoberfest, to include Color Me Knot Tattoos with $20 and $40 tattoo specials, B.S. Unlimited with two bin items for $5, 1st Edition Bookstore offering 35 percent off all books, Stoner’s Pizza Joint with putterball, Epic Treasures will have a $5 wall, and Cuts by Crystal will feature German hair braiding evening. Babies N Things, Copperas Cove Creative Space, Main Street Mercantile, Copperas Cove Food Mart & Smoke Shop will all have special sales.
The Pivo & Polka band returns this year to provide the live entertainment from 5-10 p.m.
In addition to the live music, there will be a stein holding contest, brat eating contest, Bavarian attire contest, sausage tossing contest, yodeling contest, as well as a digital Deutschland passport game. There will be free 360 videos in the photo booth, along with raffles and prizes. More than 50 local vendors will line the downtown area.
The special events begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Best Bavarian Attire Contest outside The House on Main. There are four chances to win in categories to include Best Lederhosen, Best Dirndl, Best Dressed Couple, and Best Dressed Kid.
Prizes include gift certificates for drinks, haircare, massage, and boutique shopping.
Those who think they can yodel should warm up their vocal cords for the yodeling contest at 6:30 p.m., to be held at the Taste of Cove Food Truck Park on Avenue E. Rainbow Heart Studio will give a special demonstration before the contest begins, with the contest winner to receive a prize basket full of Oktoberfest goodies.
Eat the most brats with your hands tied behind your back, in the brat eating contest at 7 p.m. outside Herb & Earnie’s on Main Street. Limited to 10 participants, this contest has a prize of a $25 Herb & Earnie’s gift certificate.
New this year is a sausage tossing contest, held by Refresh Spa & Salon at 8 p.m. on Avenue E. Team up with a friend, don an apron, and toss and catch a sausage (limited to 12 participants). The farthest apart team wins, with the pair receiving gift certificates for spa and salon services from Refresh.
The stein holding contest starts at 9 p.m., hosted by Nelson Brew Works on Main Street, with both men’s and women’s divisions. Winners will receive a $25 gift certificate to Nelson Brew Works. The competition is limited to 10 men and 10 women.
