Families streamed in and out of the park Saturday as they enjoyed Copperas Cove Parks & Recreation’s Spring Fest.

Spring Fest ran from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Ashley Wilson, Special Event Coordinator for Parks & Recreation, said that their Spring Festival is replacing their Food Truck Festival. She said that they wanted to celebrate spring, and the weather in Copperas Cove is usually much nicer in the spring rather than in the summer.

“Also, Cove had Spring Break this week, so it was good for those who didn’t go anywhere,” said Wilson. “Next year will be even bigger and better.”

This year’s festival featured 49 vendors and 15 food vendors. They also had a variety of bounce houses and outdoor games. Entertainment for the event was provided by Lone Star Disc Dogs, the SC Lee Cougarettes, and Dysfunkshun Junkshun.

Vendors at the event said that they had a good stream of customers.

“It’s been nice,” said Jennifer Walters, owner of JenX.  “I like how we are set up in a line.”

JenX sells a variety of anime themed crafts, artwork, and more. Walters said that she started in 2015 and said that making her products is relaxing and enjoyable for her.

Popcorn Friday, another Spring Fest vendor, sold a variety of popcorn flavors. They offered more traditional flavors like Cheddar and Caramel, but they are also known for offering stranger flavors like Cotton Candy, Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Loaded Baked Potato. They offer free taste tests of their products which attracted several customers to their table.

“Everyone’s been loving it,” said Andrea Roque, assistant manager for Popcorn Friday. “It’s been really great. Everyone’s very interested in all of the weird flavors.”

Christine Eastteam brought her children, Jordyn (7) and Clayton (10) Eastteam to Spring Fest so they could get some Kona Ice (their favorite) and stayed for the entertainment and to check out the vendors.

She said that her kids particularly enjoyed the Lone Star Disc Dog’s show

“I loved it,” said Clayton about the dog show. “When they threw it, Willow jumped so high!”

Willow was one of several dogs to perform in the dog show. The trainers threw special discs in a variety of ways while the dogs leapt into the air to catch them. Some of the dogs performed tricks such as jumping off of their trainer before catching the discs in midair.

It’s nice,” said Eastteam about Spring Fest. “I like that it’s not overly crowded. I like how spread out everything is. It’s a cheap option for $5 a family.”
