Council finalizes tax rate and budget

In a five to one contested vote, the Copperas Cove City Council approved the 2014-15 fiscal year budget and tax rate increase to $0.79 per $100 valuation of property. Councilman Jim Schmitz was the lone nay vote in both records. Kicking off the first meeting of the month, the council approved the only consent item on the agenda awarding Copperas Cove Athletic Officials Association the contract to provide sports officiating for recreational sports for the Parks and Leisure Services Department. Council agreed to allow City Manager Andrea Gardner to select the best candidates to vote on in the Teas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool board of Trustees election.
