On Monday, the first day of the 66th annual Coryell County Youth Fair, Copperas Cove’s Ava Hagan earned a buckle and received multiple top finishes, 3rd Place – Senior Trail; 2nd Place – Senior Western Pleasure; 2nd Place – Senior Showmanship; 1st Place – Senior Horsemanship; and Overall Grand Champion.

Copperas Cove FFA students have been showing livestock projects all week, including rabbits, chickens, lambs, goats, and swine.

During Tuesday’s rabbit show, several students’ entries won to include 2nd Place Lionhead Buck, 4th Place Mini Lop Doe, and 3rd Place Mini Lop Doe.

In fact, every single student in Muddy Boots 4-H came home with a ribbon, with two Reserve Grand Champions and a huge win with the Group 1 Grand Champion in the rabbit competition.

The goat competition took place on Thursday, and the swine competition wraps up on Friday.

In the Home Economics competition which took place on Wednesday, Senior Makayla Gonzalez took 5th place with her pencil sketch, and Pennylane Bachie came away with a Grand Champion ribbon on Wednesday for her black-and-white photography with a photo of her pig and took Reserve Grand Champion with her multimedia art piece.

These students and many others qualified for the premium auction on Saturday evening.

The week will culminate with a premium auction at the Gatesville Civic Center on Saturday, Jan. 17 starting at 4 p.m. The civic center is located at 301 Complex Cir. In Gatesville.

Saturday night will feature concessions and the chance to “bid” on the students’ entries.

Anyone from the community may attend and bid on the winning entries. The Copperas Cove Buyers’ Club, a registered 501(c )3, is also accepting donations that it uses to bid on student entries.
