Just in time for Rabbit Fest weekend, Copperas Cove Parks and Recreation officially held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the walking trail around the City Park duck pond.

Dozens of Covites were in attendance Tuesday afternoon for the official unveiling of the walking trail and the “#COVE” sign created by Copperas Cove High School’s CTE welding students. Also, three new bridges will offer ways to cross the creek at the park.

“There’s something powerful about a community that shows up—not just to ask for change, but to cheer for the progress being made. Celebrations like this remind us what’s possible when we take pride in where we live and lift up the wins that make our city better for everyone,” said Beth Galick-Carney, president of the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce.

The sign is meant to be a fun focal point for both the park and the walking trail.

Khalil Hall, Landon Hall, Slade Dones, and Rylie Sanson were the students who built the sign. James Carver and Brandon Boger were the CCHS welding instructors who supervised the construction. Carver described the four students as innovative, task driven, and yearning for success.

“It’s awesome for the students to be involved,” said Carver. He said that it was all the work of the students, he and Boger simply supervised. “This was their task.”

Director of Parks and Recreation, Jeff Stoddard, said that the walking trail and bridges have greatly enhanced the aesthetics of the park. Stoddard said that they still have plans for further upgrades to the park including cleaning up the duck pond, and, after it is cleaned, adding a new fountain in the pond.

“We still plan to add benches, trash receptacles, sod and seed for grass along the walkway, and a new pavilion,” said Stoddard.
