A 14-foot lighted tree with ornaments, and a lineup of décor to include Santa and Mrs. Claus, snowman, an elf, a family of deer, a gingerbread man, as well as thousands of lights and more will be installed in Copperas Cove City Park during the holiday season this year.
The Copperas Cove city council approved the purchase of the décor at Tuesday’s meeting.
Along with installation and storage charges, the price tag amounts to just over $41,000. The funds for this come from the remaining monies of the Five Hills Scholarship Pageant program, which have been held by the city since the pageant ceased operations.
The cost for installation/removal and storage of the decor is $13,200, which would be an annual cost. Currently, the doesn’t have space to store the Christmas decor.
However, this year’s capital improvement plan calls for a storage facility for Parks and Recreation. Once completed, this facility will be used to store all sporting equipment, special events program materials along with the Christmas decor.
“This investment in Christmas decor will serve as a foundation for launching an annual Christmas in the Park event, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce,” said Ashley Wilson, Special Events Coordinator for the City of Copperas Cove. “Staff intends to expand the footprint of holiday lights and decorations throughout City Park through partnerships and sponsorships from local businesses.”
