It took approximately two months, but the finishing touches have been put on the newest mural project in downtown Copperas Cove.

CCHS art teacher and mural artist Linda Lapierre spearheaded the project located on the side of the building at 203 S. 2nd St.

“From Copperas Cove With Love” measures 100 feet long by 17 feet tall, and more than 100 volunteers helped in the endeavor to “paint within the lines.”

On Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m., the community is invited to gather to view the finished mural and celebrate, along with taking photos.

“This mural is an example of what a community can accomplish when we work together,” said Lapierre. “Saturday is a celebration for all.”

The design is a sunrise sky, with five stylized hills, gigantic bluebonnets and silhouettes of families. The center focal point is a classic 50’s style postcard of Ogletree Gap signed “From Copperas Cove With Love”.

Except for the postcard, which was painted offsite by local artist Catherine Blashack, the stylized colors of the mural weren’t blended, but instead had a paint by numbers look.

All volunteers signed the property owner’s release waiver in order to participate.  Work would begin around 7 a.m. until the temperature rose enough to make it too hot to paint.
