The Copperas Cove Police Department confirmed and clarified that it and the City of Copperas Cove, as well as the Copperas Cove Fire Department, are conducting internal and criminal investigations on an unspecified number of fire department employees.
On Thursday afternoon, the Copperas Cove Police Department issued a statement.
“The City of Copperas Cove and the Copperas Cove Police Department are conducting simultaneous internal and criminal investigations in conjunction with the Copperas Cove Fire Department,” wrote Lt. Krystal Baker with the Copperas Cove Police Department in a media release.
“We can confirm that one Fire Department employee, who was also a subject of the investigation, resigned during the process. Their resignation became effective July 9, 2025,” Baker added.
Lt. Baker stated that the investigation pertains to a "limited number of personnel" within the Fire Department, not the department as a whole.
“While we are unable to release names at this time, those connected to the matter are currently on administrative leave while both internal and criminal investigations continue. This approach is consistent with standard procedure and reflects our commitment to transparency, while also protecting the integrity of the process and upholding due process.
“There is no additional information available for release at this time.”
