Family and community rally, to raise funds for cancer patient

Sunday afternoon rain and chilly weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of well over 100 who attended a fundraiser for Charlie Williams, a Covite recently diagnosed with stage IV lung, liver and colon cancer. Uninsured for most of his adult life, Williams’s cancer diagnosis wasn’t made until he was able to receive healthcare and necessary testing because of enrolling in a federally mandated healthcare plan. His family and close friends began planning a benefit several weeks ago, rallying fellow residents and business owners to plan a fundraiser held at Dave’s Sports Bar, to include the sale of barbecue plates, an auction, as well as a band.
