Central Texas College holds ceremony for 300-plus graduates

Central Texas College (CTC) held its spring 2023 commencement ceremony at the Bell County Expo Center on Friday, May 12. Of the more than 900 CTC graduates worldwide, 356 participated in the local procession. The degrees conferred included 84 Associate of Applied Science, 242 Associate of Arts, 15 Associate of Science and 15 Certificates of Completion.

Nine students were recognized as highest-honors graduates for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average while completing their degree plans. Highest-honor graduates were Rachel Clendenen – Associate of Applied Science; Eliot Cockrell – Associate of Arts; Isabel Mata – Associate of Arts; and Andrew Morales – Associate of Applied Science.

Highest-honors graduates also included Early College High School students Maya Alexander, Brandie Clark, Madison Nichols and Vincent Xiao and STEM program student Izma Dar, each graduating with an Associate of Arts degree.

While most graduates were from the central Texas area, some distance learners and students from Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Illinois, Oklahoma, Georgia, North Carolina, California and Washington also attended the commencement. The average age of the CTC graduates was 25 years with the eldest graduate at 69 years of age and the youngest was 17. 

Among the graduates were various active-duty military personnel and family members: 55 soldiers in the U.S. Army, one member of the U.S. Navy, two members of the U.S. Air Force and 128 military family members. The graduation also featured 119 Early College High School students and 46 STEM program students.
