After a May 2024 bond that did not pass with Copperas Cove ISD voters, the district will be trying again in November 2025 for another bond.
However, the details of that bond will look like have not yet been released.
According to Kurtis Quillin, the Director of Communications for CCISD, the bond proposal information will be on the agenda with the board of trustees next week.
The board has until Aug. 18 to formally call for a bond election on Nov. 4, 2025.
“This will be on one of next week’s agendas,” Quillin stated in an email.
The CCISD board of trustees will be having its regular monthly workshop and meeting on Monday, Aug. 11 at noon and on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m.
During the board’s June workshop, the board and CCISD superintendent Brent Hawkins heard from three members of the district’s facilities committee.
The facilities committee, formed in the fall of 2024, evaluated facilities and noted that many are over 50 years old. The committee has approximately 45-50 members, and about 20 percent were on the prior committee. The committee’s presentation included prioritized projects based on student needs and financial feasibility, ranking them for cost-effectiveness.
Among the top-ranked projects were addressing high school facility improvements and expansion needs, safety and security upgrades at all campuses; repair or replace major systems as needed at all campuses such as HVAC, roofs, foundations, plumbing, electrical; Copperas Cove Junior High School renovations and classroom additions; and addressing major renovations at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary.
Hawkins also told the board at that time, based on the Texas Association of School Boards’ assessment of CCISD’s facilities, TASB made a total of $400 million in recommendations.
During the June meeting, there was much discussion on using approximately $15-17 million of CCISD’s uncommitted fund balance to address immediate needs, while also considering long-term goals and community feedback.
During the July meeting, the board approved an updated assignment of the district’s fund balance, which includes approximately $16.9 million for new construction projects and $2.5 million for needed renovations.
Next week’s workshop and board meeting will be live streamed on the district’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@CopperasCoveISDTX. The workshop and meeting video recordings will also be uploaded to the district’s website within 48 hours. Those who wish to attend in person may do so at the board room, located at the district’s administration building, 508 S. Main St.
