The Copperas Cove Independent School District sees a new leader among its administration.

Damon Adams was approved as the district’s assistant superintendent of operations and support at Tuesday evening’s board of trustees meeting.

He replaces Rick Kirkpatrick, now in his new role as superintendent at Florence ISD.

Adams has 19 years in education under his belt and comes to CCISD from the Marble Falls Independent School District. Most recently, Adams was principal at Marble Falls High.

CCISD received 36 applications for the position. The district had a selection committee to include the deputy superintendent, CCHS principal, CCJHS principal, Martin Walker Elementary principal, CCISD Director of Maintenance, CCISD Director of Child Nutrition, and the superintendent. Interviews were conducted with four candidates on March 8 and 9.

Likewise, the district will also see a new director of bands/instrumental music, but that individual will not be named until the April board of trustees meeting, as announced on Tuesday.

Interviews were conducted with two candidates, one on March 7 and one on March 10.

The district received 36 applications for that position, and also evaluated candidates by way of a selection committee that included an assistant band director from the junior high level, an assistant band director from the high school, a junior high school principal, the high school principal, the athletic director and the superintendent.

During the recognitions portion of the meeting, CCISD was presented with its JET grant by Texas Workforce Commission State Director Ed Serna; Fort Hood Recycle Bowl winners Hettie Halstead Elementary and Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary were recognized; Copperas Cove High School TAFE members were congratulated for competing at the state level, as well as Copperas Cove High School DECA members competing at the state level; HOSA members named top 6A school district in the nation for blood collection efforts; and Copperas Cove High School student athletes competing at the state level in Powerlifting and Wrestling; as well as Texas School Public Relations Association Awards earned by CCISD Communications Department.
