Boys & Girls Club of Copperas Cove to open new location on June 2

Special to Leader-Press

Nearly two years after a groundbreaking ceremony to reveal the “Future Home of Boys & Girls Clubs of Copperas Cove” at 206 Laura St., BGCCC announced on Thursday plans to launch its Summer Out-of-School-Time Program at a new home – 216 Laura St.
“Earlier this spring an anonymous donor presented our organization with an opportunity to realize the goals we announced in 2019 within weeks, rather than years, at a fraction of the projected costs. I am overjoyed to share that the Boys and Girls Club of Copperas Cove will kick off our Summer Program at a new home, the first ever permanent Clubhouse for the youth in our community who need us most,” said Donna Howard, Chief Volunteer Officer of BGCCC.
In March of 2021, the anonymous donor of the 2019 property presented BGCCC leaders with an additional proposal to transfer ownership of two 5,100-square foot facilities adjacent to 206 Laura St.
The property currently hosts the operations of a Texas Charity Bingo Hall and a licensed day care.
Out of recognition of the unprecedented opportunities associated with this donation, BGCCC leaders initiated swift action to evaluate the financial and operational feasibility of transitioning Club activities to the new location; adjust long-term strategic plans to ensure attainment of key growth objectives; ensure applicable land-use designations; and to ultimately initiate a plan to facilitate the transition to a new home as soon as possible.
“Increased levels of community fundraising support to sustain  the Club’s new home will be vital to ensuring a prosperous future for BGCCC.”
According to Daniel Hall, Vice President of Resource Development for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas, “The new Clubhouse in Copperas Cove will allow BGCCC to serve more youth, increase the quality of Club programming, and ultimately to enhance our impact on the lives of youth who need us most. Now more than ever, we need your help. We ask those we a vested interest in providing great futures for the youth of Copperas Cove to consider a monthly $20 pledge to the Club by texting BGCCC to 26989.”
BGCCC will host its first golf tournament on June 11 to support the purchase of equipment, program supplies, and furnishings for the transition to the new Clubhouse this summer.
Golf teams and sponsorship opportunities are still available at www.bgcccgolf.com.
To support furnishing the new facility, BGCCC will also host an online charitable auction in partnership with the Killeen Auction House (www.killeenbid.com) from June 17-June 30.
Summer enrollment at the new site is currently open for youth ages six (entering into 1st grade) through 12 (entering into 6th grade).
