World of Wonder Academy is holding an open house on Saturday, June 21 from 3-5 p.m.
The soon-to-open childcare center is located at the former site of Turkey Creek Junior Academy, 1101 Hawk Trail, in Copperas Cove.
The day will feature inflatables, snacks, giveaways, and photo opportunities with Stitch, Bluey, and the Ninja Turtles.
Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, the academy provides care and education for ages six weeks to PreK4. The academy uses faith-based curriculum and provides a similar atmosphere. Each morning, every classroom will incorporate Bible stories into their circle times, and each day wil open with prayer for example.
The facility includes an infant room for ages six weeks to 11-month-olds, a caterpillar room for crawlers ages 12-16 months, and a butterfly room for mobile children aged 17 months to 23 months.
The center employs a hybrid Montessori and childcare curriculum, emphasizing a calming environment with minimal decorations. The staff is trained in CPR and first aid. The center also plans to offer workshops and extra-curricular activities for older children in the future.
Jessica Wiggins is the owner/CEO of the academy and elaborated more on the center’s minimalist atmosphere.
“We are also an unplugged facility, in the sense that we do not have any kind of electronics incorporated into our learning and academics. The whole environment is designed to be calming and not overstimulating, because we feel like the world is already so stimulating, and they need a place to unplug,” Wiggins said. “And so we are in an unplugged facility, in our esthetics, and then also in the way that we incorporate our learning enrichment activities. They’re all hands on. It’s good to offer a space where they don’t have to have (electronic devices), where they can just be kids, just hit those milestones and those academics.”
Wiggins said that there will be a summer program when the center ends and then once the school year starts back, they will have an academic schedule that will fine tune growth milestones.
“In most of our classrooms, there are little balance beams and things to step on and walk on, which is part of the mobility part. Then we have sets with tools and things and café’s, called dramatic play, but it’s also real life, things that they would normally like interact with, with their size, and they get to keep moving too.”
Wiggins said that the hope is that anyone who walks through their doors feels nurtured, that it’s very inviting, so they feel comfortable. Sometimes that transition can be hard for children to separate from mom and dad. So, like we feel like in this environment, it would hopefully set them up to feel confident.”
