Dec. 8 set as date for Copperas Cove runoff election

During a special meeting of the Copperas Cove city council on Thursday, the council canvassed the election results of the Nov. 3 election, declaring Place 7 candidate and incumbent Jack Smith the winner.
For Place 6, the council set a runoff date of Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Candidates Terri Deans and Vonya Hart were the top two vote-getters on Nov. 3, ahead of incumbent Marc Payne and fellow candidate Gary Kent.
Deans received 33.35 percent, or 3,294 votes. Hart received 22.83 percent, or 2,255 votes. Payne received 21.91 percent, or 2,165 votes. Gary Kent received 21.91 percent, or 2,164 votes.
Dates and times for early voting and polling locations for the runoff have not yet been announced.
