Copperas Cove active COVID-19 cases drop below 100 mark on Monday

The City of Copperas Cove released its weekly update on Monday, noting a total of 268 positive confirmed cases within the city limits, which is up 27 from last week. 

However, Monday’s number includes a drop in the active cases to 81, down 38 from the 119 active cases reported last Monday. 

This is the lowest number of active cases since the city’s report dated July 27, when there were a total of 94 active cases out of a total of 141 positives. Monday’s report also included 184 recovered, and three deceased. 

The 27 new cases added include a total of six in their 20s, six in their 50s, five in their 60s, four – age range not listed, two in their 30s, two in their 40s, and two in their 70s. None under the age of 20 or over age 79 are listed.  

Coryell County reported a total of 489 positive confirmed cases on Monday afternoon, with 263 active cases within Coryell County, 222 recovered, and four deceased. Coryell County has conducted nearly 19,760 tests, according to the Texas DSHS tracker. 

Neighboring Bell County has seen a dip in its active cases, falling below 1,000 to 937 on Friday. A total of 41,058 tests have been conducted in Bell County. 

Lampasas County has seen a slight increase in its cases, with a reported 245 total as of Saturday, and active cases numbering 20. Lampasas County has seen five fatalities. A total of 2,773 tests had been conducted in the county as of Aug. 19. 

Despite the number of positive cases still increasing in the state, the number of active cases is going down statewide as well. 

As of Sunday, there were a total of 114,391 active cases of COVID-19 within the state of Texas, out of a total of 577,537 confirmed positive cases, with 3,493 new cases added on Sunday. An estimated 451,775 have recovered, with fatalities at 11,370. 

A total of 5,186 are hospitalized for COVID-19 in Texas, with the hospitalization number at its lowest since June 26, when there were 5,102 hospitalized for COVID-19. Hospitalization numbers saw a spike on July 22, when 10,893 were in Texas hospitals for the virus. 

The seven-day testing positivity rate, however, jumped to 16.24 percent on Sunday after a relative decline in that rate during the month of August, reaching a low of 10.81 percent on August 18.
