Longtime Copperas Cove business begins new chapter

Small business owners dream of passing their legacy and ownership down to their children but rarely does that actually happen. 

After 40 years in the business of keeping Central Texas homes safe, Doug Ables, owner of Ables Top Hat Chimney Sweeps in Copperas Cove, is passing the baton to his youngest son, Micah. 

“After serving in the army and moving across the country and world for the last eight years, my family and I are thrilled to be reestablishing roots back at home. Taking over my dad’s business was the perfect opportunity to stay put and raise my kids where I grew up. I’m thankful for the legacy my dad has established and I’m honored to continue serving this community,” said Micah. 

Along with the new ownership, the company is rebranding itself as Ables Top Hat Home Services to better reflect the wide variety of services that it provides to promote home safety. 

Ables will continue to offer chimney cleaning, inspections, and repairs along with dryer vent and air duct cleaning. 

Ables Top Hat Home Services is the only certified and fully insured chimney sweep in Central Texas. The company has been voted the Best or One of the Best in Central Texas since 2014; the Best Chimney Sweep in Central Texas for the 25th Anniversary Edition; and the Best of Cove for chimney sweeps, dryer vent cleaning, and air duct cleaning since the categories started in 2016.
