Several Lady Dawgs, Bulldawgs named to 12-6A All-District Basketball teams

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs landed seven players on the All-District list after their rollercoaster season that left them just shy of a playoff spot.

Senior post Kaysha McCloud was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year along with Temple senior Wilashia “Lae Lae” Burleson.

Harker Heights senior Sierra Brooks was named District 12-6A Most Valuable Player while head coach Shirretha Nelson was named Coach of the Year. Ellison junior Nylia Mobley was named 12-6A Defensive Player of the Year and Midway sophomore Marlissa Watson was named Newcomer of the Year.

Seniors Madisen “MJ” Honea and Leah Powell were named to the First Team while senior Deja Chapman. junior A’Zariah “AZ” Knotts, junior Jasmine Sankey and junior Micah Anderson were named to the Second Team. 

Joining the First Team with Honea and Powell were: Harker Heights – senior Brielle Dorsey, senior Celise Bobbitt, junior Emri Lovell and sophomore Angelique Morgan. Ellison – senior Arrianna Faulks, senior Alina Simon, senior Di’Ambria Whyte and junior Evelyn Lorenzo. Midway – senior J’Lynn Gus, senior Jakoriah Long, senior Reaghan Ridge and senior Shamaryah Duncan; and Temple junior Taliyah Johnson.

Joining the Second Team were: Harker Heights – senior Ziah Ambrose, senior Cynaye Bobbitt, senior Princess Roberts, and sophomore Empress Roberts; Ellison – junior Le’Ondria Ford and junior DeAjia Brown; Midway – junior Jadyn Davis and freshman Ella Hamlin; Shoemaker – sophomore Jamesha Reece; Killeen – freshman Tyanna Simpson; Belton – sophomore Nylah Modesie and junior Karina Fisher; and Temple – sophomore Aniah Hall and sophomore Aaliyah Thomas.

Receiving Honorable Mention for the Lady Dawgs was senior Livonna Wallace.

Nine Lady Dawgs made the All-Academic list: Chapman, Honea, Powell, Wallace, senior Tiana Barker, senior Keana Garrett, senior Jazzaree Jones, senior Jaaliyah Segrest and sophomore Jordan McGhee.

For the Bulldawgs, senior Isiah Sobers was the lone representative on the Second Team while senior Ahmad Pierce, junior Lakyi Ellison, junior Alonnie Carter and freshman Warren Fleming received Honorable Mention.

Ellison senior Shamir Bogues was named District 12-6A MVP and Alberto Jones was named Coach of the Year, Freshman Jamyron Keller closed out Ellison’s superlatives as Newcomer of the Year. Midway senior Anthony Scott was named Offensive Player of the Year and Temple senior Quentin Johnston was named Defensive Player of the Year. 

Filling out the First Team were: Ellison – junior Trendon Stewart and senior Nehemiah Nuckols; Midway – senior Godsgift Ezedinma; Harker Heights – senior Ryan Chamberlain and sophomore Terrance Carter; Temple – senior Elcid Smith and senior Jaiden Pate; Belton – sophomore TJ Johnson; Killeen – senior Mike House; and Waco – senior Jordan Fuller.

Joining Sobers on the Second Team were: Harker Heights – junior Camrin Forde and senior Sam Bright; Shoemaker – junior Ti’Ajoe Owens, senior Damond Daniels and senior Nasir Kirk; Ellison – senior Mathias Nero; Midway – senior C.J. Calhoun; Temple – sophomore Leon Hudson; and Killeen – junior A. B. Oladipo.

Copperas Cove seniors Jerome Gaillard, Pierce, Sobers and Deayra Corbin were named to the All-Academic list.
