No. 13 Lady Dawgs improve to 32-2, 7-1 with sweep of Lady Roos

The no. 13 Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs’ volleyball team closed out the first round of District 12-6A play strong with a sweep of the Killeen Lady Kangaroos on Friday to improve to 32-2 overall and 7-1in district action.
Kamryn Ash doled out a game-high 29 assists with 16 kills going to senior Aidan Chace to lead the Lady Dawgs to a 25-10, 25-9, 25-12 win Friday evening at Bulldawg Gymnasium.
The Lady Roos would show signs of life but explosive runs by the Lady Dawgs kept Killeen from closing the distance all evening. Junior Janice Fa’aola and Leah Powell added eight and five kills, respectively, while senior Christina Pettigrew had six. 
Eight aces also helped the Lady Dawgs stay in control. Senior Aviyon Wilborn led the way with three while senior Jada Close and Powell each added two.
Powell led the back-row defense with 12 digs. Chace followed with 10 while Wilborn and senior Kristen Wasiak had eight digs each. 
Pettigrew also had three blocks to lead the front line.
Chace leads the Lady Dawgs in kills through 34 games with 303. She also leads in hitting percentage at .411. Powell is next with 234 while Fa’aola adds another 213. Close (138) and Pettigrew (120) are also in triple digits.
Ash pushed her team-high assist total to 690 with Chace adding 321. Ash has just 27 errors in 1,038 tries.
Wasiak leads the Lady Dawgs in digs with 486 followed by Powell (306 and Chace (239). 
Pettigrew’s 141 blocks leads the category in front of Close (127) and Chace (100). 
Ash leads in aces with 42 and Close follows with 41.
The Lady Dawgs begin the second round of district action tonight with a road game at Temple (4-4 in District 12-6A) before traveling to Ellison (6-2). The Lady Dawgs return home for matches against Shoemaker and Waco High on Oct. 2 and Oct. 5, respectively.
