The Lady Dawgs’ basketball team moved to 5-5 on the season after splitting games with a pair of Pantherettes, Pflugerville and Midway last week.

The Lady Dawgs opened the week on senior night against an athletic Pantherettes’ squad where they fell behind 37-22 in the first half and were not able to make up that deficit in the second half of their 69-55 loss.

The Lady Dawgs then battled a feisty Pantherettes squad in their first-non-district matchup in years and held on to a 39-35 lead after leading 21-13 at the break.

Pflugerville outscored the Lady Dawgs 20-12 in the first quarter, behind seven points by sophomore Jordynn Watts and six by junior Aaliyah Holmes.

They increased their lead to 15, 37-22, with six different players getting in on the scoring.

The Pantherettes again outscores the Lady Dawgs in the third quarter to push their lead to 18, 56-38 leading into the final quarter.

Despite nine points from senior post Jasmine Sankey and six more from senior guard AZ Knotts, the Lady Dawgs were only able to narrow the lead to 14 for the 69-55 final score.

Sankey notched a double-double to lead the Lady Dawgs 17 points and 12 rebounds followed by junior Samaria Bostic (11 pts, 6 rebs), Knotts (10 pts, 7 rebs), senior Micah Anderson (9 pts) sophomores Khia Horton and Ta’Shayla Marrie added 3 points each, and junior Kyra Gaston (2 pts, 6 reb).

After the contest, seniors Alaura Gallups, Anderson, Knotts, Sankey, and Norvona Crook were recognized.

On Friday, the Lady Dawgs hosted former district rival Midway in a defensive scrum.

After falling behind 12-8 early in the second quarter, the Lady Dawgs outscored the Pantherettes 13-7 to take a 21-13 lead at the break.

The Pantherettes cut into the Lady Dawgs’ lead but were only able to cut the deficit to four, 39-35.
