Lady Dawgs notch 20th win in Liberty Hill

LIBERTY HILL – The No. 19-ranked Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs improved their season record to 20-8 with a sweep over the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers (25-13, 25-15, 25-16) on Tuesday. Defensive specialist Bailey French was busy on the night, recording 23 digs in just three quick sets of action. French added three aces from the service line for good measure. Senior Katy Ranes recorded another double-double in the win. She tied junior Kiarrah Carlisle for game-high honors in assists with 19 while pitching in 11 digs. Senior outside hitter Jennifer Eubanks led the Lady Dawgs in kills with nine, followed by junior Chyanne Chapman’s seven swats. Junior Brianna Acker and senior Raven Dickerson contributed six kills each while Ranes and Diaz pitched in five more. Chapman also recorded a team-high 11 blocks (six solo) at the middle blocker position. Senior middle blocker Megan Diaz added six blocks (four solo) to the stat sheet. Ranes, completed her statistical sweep by adding three blocks and an ace to get at least one tick mark in all five major statistical category. The Lady Dawgs moved into the Texas Girls Coaches Association Top 15 after a torrent run in some of the state’s top tournament. Back-to-back losses in the ultracompetitive Arlington Invitational’s gold bracket semifinals and consolation brackets halted their win-streak and dropped them four spots in the rankings in Monday’s updated polls. The Lady Dawgs return home tonight against Rosebud-Lott for the first of fiveconsecutive home matches. The Lady Dawgs will then host Lorena (No. 3 ranked in Class 4A) on Tuesday before closing out their non-district slate with another home game versus Robinson (No. 9 in Class 4A) next at a p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. Cove will kick off District 12-6A play on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at home against Ellison and close out their five-game home stand with another district clash against Shoemaker on Friday, Sept. 18
