Lady Dawgs kick off 2019 season with pair of scrimmages

The Lady Dawgs volleyball program got its feet wet with a pair of scrimmages on Saturday and Monday at Bulldawg Gymnasium before officially embarking on their 2019 campaign in the annual Jason Landers Invitational this weekend in Austin. 
The new look Lady Dawgs return just four players from last year’s bi-district championship squad and just two with substantial playing time. Seniors Leah Powell and Janice Fa’aola return to their respective spots while seniors Jaela Rice and Sam Ingram will have more significant roles in 2019. 
The Lady Dawgs kicked off their season on Saturday with scrimmages against Burnet, Academy and Lorena where they gave fans some highlights.
They continued scrimmage action Monday morning with matches against Llano, Austin Johnson and Leander Glenn.

Joining the four seniors on the varsity squad are junior Sydney Montana, sophomore Amma Wasiak, senior Lacy Wheat, sophomore Kyra Gaston, senior N’kya Smith, senior Abby McWhorter, senior Monique Arevalo-Zamzow, junior Larissa Melendez and junior Alisha Donnatien and Jazzree Jones. Izzy Johnston will serve as varsity manager. 
The players making the junior varsity teams are Aaliyah Butler, Alexcia Gaines, Emily Vanderpoel, Hope Chapman, Jade Chapman, Jakhi Smith, Jasmine Davis, Jiya Edwards, Leila Cooks, Maliyah tate, Olivia Guerrero, Alivia Arnold, Dayna Ruiz, Jaden Dent, Jae Rogers, Jamesia Moody, Kayla Zamora, Leeann Edmond, Melanie Melave, Mya Watson, Nylaje Hill and Princess Spruave, Nyleelah Lee is the JV manager. 
The players making the freshman squads are Aaliyah lucas, Alani Johnson, Alanna Hairston, Amme McDonald, Anissa Amaro, Ariana San Nicholas, Ashanti Wright, Aubrey Valentine. Braelyn Little, Deazzia Moore, Deshunna hall, Dyanna Pulido, Elise Fusilier, Elizabeth Farmer, Geralynn Jimenez, Kiara Woodard, Kylee Perez, Lanaya Horta, Laniya Gray, Leila Daniels, Madison Brown, Melainy Edmond, Morgan Galipeau, Olivia Martinez and Taji Worlds. The freshman managers are Emilee Eden, Harley, Shehane and K.C. De Leon.
