Lady Dawgs close out non-district slate with 57-16 win over Mustangs

The Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs improved their season record to 11-3 with a dominant 57-16 win over the Marble Falls Lady Mustangs Tuesday afternoon at Bulldawg Gymnasium.
The Lady Dawgs jumped out early with a 10-0 lead and never looked back in the lopsided win.
The Lady Mustangs got on the board in the second quarter with six points, but the Lady Dawgs added 16 more points for a 26-6 lead at the halftime break. 
Cove then pushed their lead to 36, 46-10, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 20-4 in the third period.
Cove finished on an 11-6 run in the fourth quarter to take the win.
Junior Madisen Honea led the Cove scorers with 22 points while senior Madison Griffon scored 10 points. Tiana Barker added eight points.
The freshman Lady Dawgs basketball also came away victorious against the Lady Mustangs in a 50-23 win. Jordan McGhee led Cove with 13 points, followed by Kyra Gaston, Samaria Bostick, and Jade Chapman with six points each.
Cove’s boys’ teams also put some wins on the board on Tuesday. The varsity Bulldawgs edged out Pflugerville High School 62-60 in a road win. Quinton Ford led the Dawgs with 29 points while Tyrese Taylor and Maurice Toney added eight points each.
The JV boys had a pair of wins with the JV A team winning 45-43 and the B team winning 68-65.
The varsity boys will host Bryan High School on Monday, Nov. 26 before they hit the road for the Marble Falls Subway Classic to be held Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 at Marble Falls High School.
The girls’ teams open up District 12-6A play against Belton at home on Tuesday, Nov. 27 with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
