HARKER HEIGHTS – Like the 12-and-under Copperas Cove Dynamite softball team did a week prior, the 14U Cove Rangers swept their way through the Texas Teenage District Baseball Tournament to earn a berth in the TTAB State Tournament set to begin July 24 in Groesbeck.

The last team standing for the boys was nearly flawless on their way to the tournament crown last week in Harker Heights.

The team went undefeated all year and all tournament to take the top spot in the nine-team District 3 tournament and earn a spot at state.

The Barlett Bulldogs overcame an early loss to the Rogers Eagles to win three straight including a revenge win over Rogers to take the second spot from District.

The Rangers and Bulldogs will join the Axtell Rangers, Alto, Blooming Grove Black, Brownwood Cubs, Early Orange, Grand Saline Indians, Roscoe Astros and the host Groesbeck Mayhugh team in the 11-team field set to get underway next Monday.

The Cove Rangers are Ezequiel Calderon, Braiden Cole, Chandler Gastelo, Cotez, Hogan, Josiah Key, Patrick Lindholm, Isiah Marcus, Dylan Martinez, Bobby Millican, John “Vincent” Moreno, Wyatt Nelson, Ayden Paquette, Arin Stack, Zacharie Williford and Jerome McJunkins; along with pick up players Joseph Campos (Gatesville Family Dental, Elmo Bailey (Cove Orioles) and Sean Reneau (Cove Orioles). They are coached by Cooper Millican.

The Dynamite kicked off their state tournament experience yesterday in Denison with an opening round match up against the Mildred Pride late last night (results unavailable at press time).

A win for the Dynamite would set up a round-two contest against the winner of Hico versus Troy tonight at 6 p.m. where a loss would put them in an 11 a.m. game today where they would need to win out to take the grand prize of a state trophy.

The Dynamite players are Nyrissia Carter, Gabby Emeana, Julissa Guevara, Kaitlyn Guevara, Shayna Hannigan, Ciera Jones, Eliana Martinez, Hannah Perry, Alohilani Ricks, Lynsey “Lu Lu” Robison and Ryleigh Thomas; along with pick up players Trinity Zavala (Cove Diablos), Kali Hunter (Cove Diablos) and Olivia Brownlee (Gatesville Stanley Chevrolet).

Getting their post season started next Monday are the 10U Copperas Cove Astros and Copperas Cove Red Sox, who will host the 14-team field for the TTAB 10U State Tournament beginning July 24 at Copperas Cove City Park.

The undefeated Astros (12-0), coached by Jeremy Sanders, look to keep their streak alive despite more than a month elapsing since winning the Copperas Cove city championship crown on June 23.

The Astros are Jirah Anzaldua, Matai Anzaldua, William Carter, Jacob Hughes, Hayden Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Lane, Seth Pronovost, Kamren Rodriguez, Jaden Sanders, Cameron Tuiasosopo, Hayden Welch, Logan Welch and Billy White III; along with pick up players Damien Steinrich (Cove Cardinals), Kaleb Howie (Cove Rangers) and Cooper Ferrell (Cove Rangers).

The Red Sox, coached by Randy Parker Jr., are coming off a 7-2 regular season record but fell in the city tournament semifinals to go 1-1 in the post season. Both teams received a bye in the district tournament as the first place teams from their respective divisions and as hosts of the state tournament.

The Red Sox are Austin Barrera, Brandon Boyer, Isaiah Colon, Jackson Domek, Jayce Earley, Tristin Goldman, Miguel Gonzalez, Nickolas Kattner-Hall, Aiden Mahoney, Mason McCombs, Bryton Mieras and Randy Parker; along with pick up players Cameron Bulter (Cove Diamondbacks) and Idris Carter (Cove Giants).

Joining the Astros and Red Sox in the 14-team field will be the Belton Padres, Belton Dodgers, Brownwood Yankees, Chandler Angels, DeLeon Stixx, Gatesville Muegge Heating & Air, Gatesville First Baptist Church, Groesbeck Crabb, Kerens Baseball, Mexia Sterling, Teague Skinner and Whitehouse Warriors.
